Abstract

|
In order to investigate the influence of high fat diet with and without ginseng on the level of serum lipids in rats, three diets, consisting respectively of 12 Kcal % lipid (normal group), 45 Kcal % corn oil, and 45 Kcal % butter fat, were fed for 40 days to albino rat weighing 85 to 105 g, and ginseng extract was administered to a half of each high-fat diet group during the last ten days of the diet period. The level of triacylglycerol, total cholesterol and phospholipid of the rat group of 45 Kcal % corn oil diet were not significantly different, but the level of triacylglycerol and total cholesterol of the rat ¢¥group . of 45 Kcal % butter fat diet were . remarkably increased to compare with those of the rat group of normal diet.
The administration of ginseng did not influenced the pattern of serm lipids of rats fed 45 Kcal % corn oil diet, but decreased the level of triacylglycerol and total cholesterol in serum which were increased by 45 Kcal % butter fat diet without administration of ginseng.
